Remove any outer layers on the head of lettuce that are browned and wilted. This is a dressing that needs time for all the flavors to meld. Whisk together all the ranch dressing ingredients and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving. I always cut chives into little batons and top the salad with them for some extra onion flavor. Crisping up bread crumbs in butter with a bit of lemon zest is way better than croutons! They coat the salad better and don’t fall off. You could dice a tomato, or cut small cherry tomatoes into pieces. I soak my diced red onion in a mix of cold water and a little vinegar to keep them from being too strong tasting. ![]() ![]() Some of the simplest, most seemingly effortless outfits have proven to be more profound than the over-the-top frills and ruffles of others. Next up, the key trends for spring/summer 2022. Minimalist Minimal Fashion Is My Game, and These Outfits Are My Playbook by Adrienne Faurote 'Less is more' is an ethos minimalists truly live by. What can I say? The heart wants what the heart wants, and this one wants colours and sequins and ruffles. I ought to disclaim that as I write this conclusion, I am wearing a very loved Marc by Marc Jacobs tee I snaffled at the opening of the first-ever London store, a Mondrian-inspired cardigan, some Adidas tracksuit bottoms that my partner refers to as my Squid Game trousers and my beloved silver boots. And on my last visit to my favourite vintage market, I found myself seeking out those classic, keep-forever garments rather than the sparkly dresses, cottagecore blouses and over-the-top jackets I usually gravitate towards. I was, however, inspired to do an epic wardrobe clear-out, donating nine huge bags of clothes to my local charity shop. ![]() While I appreciate minimalist style on others-as well as the value of a capsule wardrobe-I’m too sartorially neurotic to rely on a rotation of simple separates. Having completed seven days of minimalist(ish) outfits, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited to shimmy back into my clashing prints and pie-crust collars or that I reduced my entire wardrobe to 15 items and swore off sequins forever. “Less is more,” I chanted through gritted teeth. The only difference was they were usually accompanied by pink mohair, leopard print and/or a garishly logo-laden accessory. Minimalist style means limiting yourself to one or two primary colors in an outfit. Black, white, grey, navy, olive are enough for most applications. I already owned-and loved-each of these pieces. My partner guffawed, his eyes scanning my many shelves of bags, shoes and general frippery. If you want an Apple Watch, I suggest staying as focused as possible. I limited notifications from just about every other app though to save me from insanity with my wrist buzzing every time the president prompts a heart-stopping news alert or someone mentions me on Twitter. The Apple Watch is perfect for calendar alerts and reading incoming text messages on the go. Twitter, Amazon, Google, and others have all removed their Apple Watch apps. Meanwhile, many developers have realized the Apple Watch just isn't worth it. It took over a minute for my Lyft app to load the other day. It's tough to use most of them on the tiny screen, and some run painfully slow. All that other smartwatch stuffĪpps are still the worst part of the Apple Watch. It made me want to keep the Apple Watch on just so I could track my progress better. Over time, you can get a pretty good snapshot of your activity and progress. It also ties into the Health app on iPhone, which can monitor vitals like your pulse using the Apple Watch's sensors. I doubt it's the best way to track how many calories you really burn while lifting weights.Īll your workout data gets pushed to the iPhone's activity app, so you can get a full summary of what you accomplish each day. Instead, you have to track weight-lifting sessions with the "Other" workout mode, which equates your workout to a brisk walk. My only problem is there isn't a weight-lifting workout. You can also string multiple workouts together if you decide to mix things up in a session. The app tracks your pulse and estimates how many calories you burn with each workout. It seems to work pretty well, and has all the standard workouts you'd expect, like elliptical, indoor run, and indoor rowing. There are a bunch of third-party workout apps for the Apple Watch, but I stuck with the one that Apple ships with the watch. If you're the competitive type and need a little extra encouragement, workout sharing is a great feature on the Apple Watch. I'm also happy to say I beat him to closing my activity rings most days. I tried this with my colleague Kif, who's also testing the Apple Watch Series 3, and it added a fun, competitive element to my workouts. You can also share your workouts with other friends who have Apple Watches, nudging them to work out or bragging about your own achievements. It's that little extra push that convinced me to get off my butt and move. When I put the Watch on for the first time each day, I'd get an alert summarizing my activity from the day before and encouraging me to beat what I did the day before. The Apple Watch's Activity app encouraged me to get moving. I'm too tired, or stayed out too late the night before, or I'd just rather sleep the extra hour. and running down to the gym for an hour so I can get my workout out of the way before my day really starts. I don't know. But I don't think most people will need the cellular version unless they have a desire to go phone-free a lot. Unlike some early testers, I found the cellular connection worked fine, and I was able to receive calls, texts, notifications, and use Siri. It's the first Apple Watch with a cellular connection, so you can use it without your phone. ![]() (A quick side note: The Apple Watch Series 3 has a new non-fitness feature worth mentioning. It's how Apple should've started things with the Apple Watch instead of packing in so many features in an effort to make the device everything to everyone. It turns out that ignoring a lot of the extra stuff like third-party apps, phone calls, and Siri queries makes the Apple Watch a much more focused and useful gadget. ![]() I haven't worn an Apple Watch regularly since late 2015, but now I'm addicted to it. Driller isn’t a more popular franchise than it is. Indeed, we’d go out on a limb and say that Delta‘s a little better than the beautiful-looking yet glacially-paced PS2 swansong, R-Type Final. Polished, slick, and ferociously difficult, R-Type Delta‘s one of the very best sequels Irem ever made to its seminal 1987 blaster. Hogs of War also contains a welcome voice-over by the late, great Rik Mayall. The controls are nicely tailored for the PS1’s controller, and there’s a surprising amount of tactical depth beneath the cartoonish presentation. In essence, it’s a kind of 3D take on the classic Worms, with rival squads of porcine soldiers murdering one another with a variety of tanks and explosives. This turn-based strategy game got a bit of a lukewarm reception on its release in 2000, but we’d argue that it’s worth overlooking its more annoying quirks. If you can’t afford the PS1 version, it’s also contained on the Gradius Collectionrelease for the PSP. Sadly, Gradius Gaiden‘ s limited release makes it a bit of a collector’s piece these days. Its action may be rooted in ’80s arcades, but its big, meaty explosions and background effects (including a nice-looking aurora borealis shimmer on level one) give it a glossy feel. It’s a superb game and one that takes great advantage of the PS1’s processing power. Released only in Japan, Gradius Gaiden saw Konami attempt to update the spaceship shooter template a little, with polygon graphics, additional weapons systems, and a greater variety of difficulty levels to court the less seasoned gamer. You’ll know all about the Gradius games if you’re into your retro 2D shooters, but the PlayStation-exclusive Gradius Gaiden is undoubtedly one of its most obscure entries. All the same, it’s colorful and lots of fun, particularly in two-player mode. Even at the time of its release in the late ’90s, YoYo’s Puzzle Park felt like a bit of a retro throwback to games like Rodland or Psycho Pigs UXB, which means it never got much of a release in the west. ![]() ![]() It is hardly ever boring, like you may see in a movie.
